Exactly. That this would happen was pretty much a sure bet. The interesting thing is how stuff plays out. As I see it people (maybe led by Kanade) start treating Mayu badly — and Kumiko and Reina come to Mayu’s defense. (Which finally creates some actual friendship bonds for Mayu).

彼女、最後の選考でスポットを取り戻すと思うけど、とりあえず最初のショックから立ち直って、もっと頑張ろうってモチベーションになってると思うよ。
彼女は多分、真由のために立ち上がる必要があるかもね。
なぜなら、いくつかの子たちが久美子/麗奈がそのパートを確実にもらえると見ていたから。
それでようやく真由がバンドの理念を信じるようになって、ずっと疑ってばかりいて久美子にそのパートを譲るべきか聞くことをやめるかもしれない。
Yup, I wrote similar in a comment about this. I think she’s end up winning back the sport for the last selection but for now, and after the initial shock, she’s probably motivated to do better.
She might need to defend Mayu because a few kids saw Kumiko/Reina as more or less set for those parts. And that finally get Mayu to trust the band’s ideals instead of doubting it all the time and asking Kumiko if she should just let her have the part.

ソロの決定についてメンバー内で意見が分かれて、真由が厳しい立場に追い込まれそうだから。
I feel like Mayu was right, Kumiko should have just let Mayu to quit the soli audition. No one including Mayu herself wants to see Kumiko lose her soli position. I hope next episode Kumiko can step up and defend Mayu just like Kaori did in first season, because there are members gonna disagree about this soli decision and put Mayu in a tough position.

確かにその通りだよね。
結局のところ、終盤のソロを勝ち取りたければ、久美子はもっと頑張らないといけないわけだ。
競争がなければ手に入れた場合よりも、その時までにずっと上達しているはずさ。
生徒たちの意見も真由が正しい部分はあるけど、生徒たちが望むことが最強のパフォーマンスにつながるわけではないんだよね。
It does make sense though, means Kumiko will have to work even harder if she wants to be the solo for the final competition. So she’ll be better by that time than she would have been if it was handed to her with no competition.
Mayu is right in terms of what the students want, but what the students want wont actually lead to the strongest showing they could have.

真由は元々いい学校出身で、大きな賞も取ってるから、一番を目指すことにあんまり興味ないみたい。
今は部活で楽しむことと、旅の途中で新しい友達を作ることだけが彼女の目標みたいだね。
Also I think Mayu didn’t really care about the strongest showing cause she came from a better school and won the biggest prize. Now all she cares is just have a good time in club and maybe making a few new friends along the journey.
