Oh Spice & Wolf, you’re as beautiful as the day I lost you. I was skeptical about the potential quality of the remake, but this first episode made me tear up multiple times, and – for me – it is perfect the way it is. Holo is back. What a time to be alive. The first few minutes were such a tear-jerker, finally seeing these two together, animated in great quality, I felt like if that would be all the content we get, it would still be very much worth it. And yes, I’ve played the VR games, but those models always felt a bit off to me, even though I liked those as well. This still hits completely different somehow.

文倉 十の『狼と香辛料』のイラストを見るたびに、何かちょっと違うなって思うんだ。
もっとうまくできないし、どこがずれてるのかも言えないけど、ただ僕のスタイルじゃないんだ…（VRゲームのように）。
でも、この最初のシーンは大号泣でした。
本当にクリエイティブな新しいスタートだった。

Yes also idk, I don’t wanna hate but, whenever i see an illustration from Spice and Wolf from Juu Ayakura i think something is a bit off. I can’t do it better or even can say what is off but it’s just not my style… (Like in the VR games) But i agree this first scene was a huge tear breaker. It was a really creative new start. And even veterans probably haven’t seen this coming. And yeah the whole episode is just great and a good start

They did the frieren thing by >!starting from the end, and not like the immediate end, this feels like it could be further than what we have in the books end.!< I know I was panicking when I saw it lol. I’m hoping it’s a sign that they intend to adapt the whole thing given enough interest.

最初のエピソードは本当に良かった。
ホロによって語られる物語をシリーズに組み込むことで、新しいファンを定着させ、古いファンを惹きつける実に賢い方法だった。

Really good first episode. Framing the series a story being told by Holo to (SPOILERS) was a really smart way to both settle in new fans and entice old fans. As for the episode itself, its visually really strong and the music is perfect for setting the tone. And the nod to Chloe was great too. It is missing a bit of the rustic charm and color of the original, but this is still really nice on the eyes. If this is how the rest of the adaptation will be handled, we’re in for a real treat.

小説では、ホロが狼の前足を見せた後のロレンスとホロのやりとりが、ホロとロレンスの間のユニークな力関係や、これから起こる数々の修羅場を予感させてくれたんだよね。
I wish they’d stayed closer to the novel regarding Holo’s first transformation on the cart. it kind of bugged me in the first adaptation, too. In the novel Lawrence and Holo’s interaction, after she showed him her wolf paw gave us a taste of the unique dynamics between Holo and Lawrence and the many shinanigans yet to come.

私はちょっと同意できない。
アニメ化された作品では、突然の転換やロレンスの反応だけを見ることで、私たちがそれを見るよりも衝撃や恐怖が伝わり、私たちの想像力がそのギャップを埋めることができるのだと思う。
I kinda disagree, I think in the anime adaptations the sudden shift and only seeing Lawrence’s reaction sells the shock and fear more than us seeing it, it allows our imagination to fill in the gaps.

冒頭のシーンは、フェアな（しかし、とても歓迎すべき）サプライズではなかった。
『狼と香辛料』は、私がアニメ（そしてその後、漫画やライトノベル）にのめり込むキッカケとなったシリーズのひとつであり、今回のリメイクが私をどれほど興奮させたか、理解するのは難しい。
ホロ、ロレンス…この2人の旅に再び立ち会えることが何よりも嬉しい。
I almost teared up right from the get-go, that opening scene was not a fair(but a very welcome) surprise. Spice and Wolf was one of the series that kickstarted my descent into anime(and subsequently manga and light novels), and it’s hard to comprehend just how giddy this remake has made me. Holo, Lawrence…I am more than happy to witness the travels of these two once again.

リメイク版の第1話をやっと見ることができた。
期待していた通りの作品だった。
素晴らしい音楽、よくできたホロの紹介、好感の持てるロレンスの主人公、的確な世界観の構築、正直不満はない。
多分、OPとEDはオリジナルシリーズの2つほど良くないと思うけど、それが最大の不満だとしたら、かなり良いことだと思う。
私は大きな期待を抱いており、今のところそれは実現されている。
I finally got around to watching the first episode of the remake. It was pretty much everything I was hoping for. Great music, very well done introduction of Holo, likable protagonist in Lawrence, the world building being on point, I honestly don’t have any complaints. Maybe the OP and ED isn’t as good as the two from the original series, but if that’s my biggest complaint, then that is pretty good. I have high hopes and so far they are being delivered.

And how it will turn out… But it turned out just great and the start made me cry. I think even veterans probably haven’t seen this coming. The animation is great, great character design so far. They have modernized the style but not to much, just perfect for me. And they keep the original story… And i got a reminder why i love this series and especially Holo so much. イントロでホロがカップを指でつまむような細かいアニメーションから、美しい色使いや素晴らしい音楽まで。
CGもとてもセンス良くできていると思う。
そして、OGの声優を聞いてゾクゾクした。
私の好きなシリーズをこんなに忠実に美しく映画化するなんて信じられない。
オリジナルアニメを否定しているわけではない。
しかし、LNがこれほど詳細に、これほど忠実にカバーされるなんて、夢のようだ。
また、ホロのかわいらしさと、彼女のいたずらっ子のような表情が絶妙にマッチしている。
想像以上にLNに近い。 とにかく、続きが待ち遠しい！

Having just watched the first ep, I can’t believe how beautiful it is. From the small animation details like Holo fingering her cup in the intro, to the beautiful use colours and amazing music. I also think the CG is done very tastefully. And hearing the OG seiyu gave me chills. Can’t believe such a faithful and beautiful adaptation of my favourite series is being made now. And that isn’t a dis against the original anime. But having the LN covered in such detail, with this fidelity, is a dream come true. Also, Holo being extra cute-looking juxtaposed against her even more mischievous look is just marvelous. Even more like the LN then I could’ve dreamt. All in all, can’t wait for more! 10/10 (Also, hello Joseph Joe… I mean Yarei. Good to see you animated!)

原作もライトノベルも読んだことがない友人と一緒にこのシリーズを見るので、彼にとっても楽しい経験になるだろう。
最初のエピソードはかなりよくできていて、ライトノベルの構成によく沿っている。
実は、この番組が最後まで続き、原作アニメでは描かれていないライトノベルのシーンが含まれることをとても楽しみにしているし、期待している。
とはいえ、音楽とサウンドプロダクションについては、オリジナルアニメと同じようにはいかない。

I’m watching this series with a friend who’s never seen the original nor has read the light novels, so it will be a fun experience for him. The first episode was fairly well done and does well to follow the light novel structure. I’m actually very excited and hopeful that the show continues all the way to the end and include scenes from the light novel not previously shown in the original anime. That being said, something about the music and sound production doesn’t hit the same as the original anime. Could be the nostalgia, but nothing beats the original OP and those lighthearted flutes in the OST.
