この第1話で、僕が感情的になりすぎていることが改めて確認できたけど、ある意味いいことなのかもしれない。
特にディオ中佐とヴァイオレットがいい。
This first chapter confirmed once again that I’m too emotional but I guess that’s good in some way because probably the plot of upcoming chapters are going to be too much for me. Also gotta love those characters designs, specially Commander Dio and Violet, so good <3

ドイツに住んでるから、こっちのアニメは普通ドイツ語なんだよね（アメリカ人だからドイツ語話せないし）。
だから英語の字幕も吹き替えもないんだよ。
Netflixでこのアニメを見たとき、「ちくしょう、これが『鋼の錬金術師』や『キルラキル』みたいにずっと誘惑してくるんだ」って思ったんだけど、まあ、英語の字幕があるかどうか確認してみるかって。

I live in Germany, so usally the anime here is in German (I dont speak German because im an American) and does not have any English subs or dubs. So when i saw this show on Netflix I was like “Well crap, this show will be here forever baiting me”, (like FMA and Kill la Kill) but i decided to checked for English subs anyways And guess what THERE IS ACTUALLY IS FUCKING SUBS FOR ONCE!!!!!

最後のシーンを見る感じ「愛してる」という言葉の意味を見つけようとするロボットが、恋をしている人間（あるいはどんな形の恋でも）に共感しようとすることで、「愛している」の意味を見つけようとする話だな。
basing it on the last scene. Its about a robot trying to find the meaning of “I love you” by trying to empathize with humans who are in love (or any form of love)

僕には合わない番組なのかもしれないけど、綺麗ではあったけど、今のところ登場人物の誰にも感情移入できない。
おそらく、今回の話が今後に向けたお膳立ての話だったからかもしれないけど。
And I find it somewhat… underwhelming? Idk, maybe it just isn’t the show for me, but while it was pretty, I’m not feeling any connection to any of the characters so far. Guess it didn’t help that this was mostly set up for actual plot later.

軍隊から市民生活に移行するのは、たとえ戦闘の経験者でなくても大変なことで、適応するのに戸惑う彼らの姿に、私は間違いなく共感を覚えた。
I actually felt a major connection to both Violet and the Colonel. Transitioning from military to civilian life is tough, even if you aren’t a combat vet, and I definitely felt that connection to their lost awkwardness of adjusting.

全く予備知識なしでこれを見始めたよ。
周りの盛り上がりは見てたけど、このアニメについて知ってたのは、最初のPVでヴァイオレットがロボットアームを持ってるシーンだけ。
そのPVから、彼女が本物のロボットだと思ってたよ。兵士で、手足を失ったっていうのは予想外だったな。
でも、個人的には、これは強烈なスタートだと思う。
ヴァイオレットが本当にかわいそうで、ただ抱きしめて「大丈夫だよ、戦争は終わったんだから、もう戦わなくていいんだよ」と言ってあげたい。
ギルバートに何が起こったか本当のことを彼女に教えてくれないのが最悪だよ。
真実を知ったら、彼女にとって悲惨なことになるだろうな。
でも、ヴァイオレットはどこかで既にわかっているんだろう、ただ認めたくないだけで。
彼女のキャラクターは相良宗介を思い出させるね。
軍で育った子供兵士で、上官の命令に従うこと以外何も知らない。
ただ、今回はコメディがあまりないけど。
音楽、アート、キャラクターデザインは全部一流で、京アニから出たとあって期待通りだから、それに付け加えることはないな。
間違いなく、今シーズンは誰もがチェックすべきアニメだよ。
I went into this blind. I’ve seen all the hype but the only thing I knew about this show is the first PV where we see Violet and her robot arms. From that PV, I assumed she was an actual robot. I didn’t expect her to be a solider who had her limbs torn off. So far though, IMO this is a strong opening for me. I feel so bad for Violet. I just wanna hug her and tell her everything will be alright and that the war is over and she doesn’t have to fight anymore. It just sucks that they won’t tell her what actually happened to Gilbert. This is gonna end badly once she finds out the truth. Although deep down Violet probably already knows, she’s just in denial. Also her character reminds of Sagara Souske. A child soldier who grew up in the military and knows nothing outside of it except to follow their superior officer’s orders. Except there’s not much comedy this time. Music, Art, and character design are all top notch btw. as expected from KyoAni so I don’t think I have anything to add to that. Definitely a show that everyone should at least check out this season.

I also went into this mostly blind as the only things I saw were some of the previews. Looks like the “less” someone is on the hype train, the more impressed they’re likely to be.

21分あたりで、この上なく愛らしく、見事な小粋な演出がある。
愛する人のために代筆を書いてほしいと郵便局に入ってきた男が、書き終えた女性がドアから出て行く前に彼にお礼を言う。
そして男は顔を赤らめ、ぎこちなく、照れくさそうにうなずいてからドアに向かって歩き出す。
たった8秒のシーンに、これだけの感情とニュアンスが込められている。
ラブレターを書いてもらったばかりで照れくさくて、好きな女性に手紙を渡すことで頭がいっぱいで、ドアから駆け出す前にちゃんとお礼を言うのを忘れそうになる。
本当に素晴らしい作品だ。
続きが待ち遠しい。
Can I just say, there’s a part around the 21 minute mark that is absolutely adorable and a brilliant small touch. After the man who walks into the post office wanting an Auto Memoir written for his love, the woman who finishes writing it for him thanks him for his business before he starts to walk out the door. Then the man blushes and does an awkward, shy nod before walking for the door, but before leaving, he turns to her again and gives a proper nod. So much emotion and nuance being conveyed in a mere 8 second scene. The guy just got a love letter written for him so he’s all bashful and has his mind completely absorbed in giving the letter to the woman he loves, so he almost forgets to give a proper thank you before rushing out the door. Just masterful, truly amazing stuff. I’m hyped for more.

このアニメはビジュアル面で本当に期待を裏切らない。
ヴァイオレットが書いた手紙が窓から飛んで船まで届くシーンなんか、マジで息を呑む美しさで、どんどん良くなってくスタイルがたまらない。
時間の流れを昼から夜へと見せるの、いい感じ。
第1話、期待できるね。
ヴァイオレットが新しいことを学んで、「愛してる」の意味を探るのが面白い。
でもね、小山力也が演じるホッジンズのキャラにも、ヴァイオレットとギルバートの関係にも、かなり惹かれるんだよね。
今のところ、いい感じ。

The tracking scene of the letter Violet wrote flying out of the window all the way to the ship was breathtaking and got increasingly better. I love that they’re showing the progression of time as day passes to night and so forth First episode has promise. Seeing Violet learn new things and the meaning behind “I love you” has me interested. But I’m also very intruiged by Koyasu’s character, Hodgins as much as I am Violet’s relationship with Gilbert. Promising so far

これは本当に強烈な第1話だった。
ヴァイオレットが動いたり何かをしたりするのに、ホッジンズが彼女に事実上命令しなければならなかったのが印象的で、それがヴァイオレットというキャラクターの深さを物語っているし、ホッジンズがエヴァーガーデン家を離れる前の彼女の爆発的な感情や、自動手記人形として働きたいという彼女自身の選択も同様だ。

Well, this surely was a really strong first episode. Gotta love how Hodgins needed to basically order Violet for her to move and do everything, and that truly speaks volumes of Violet as a character, as well as her outburst before Hodgins leaved the Evergarden household and her own choice of wanting to work as an Auto Memories Doll. … Though I didn’t expect to see Gilbert actually saying “I love you”. It does explain her words of wanting to know the meaning of I love you in the PV. I wonder if he is truly alive or not. I must say though, that was a lot more set up that I expected, talking about Hodgins almost constant speaking, but if we are going to follow the story in a linear fashion then I guess it is needed. Either way, at moments it felt to me that I was seeing a movie, a Ghibli at that. It was really well done and is a really strong first episode.

I feel that we need to know more about Gilbert and his journey with Violet to understand the true emotions that gave Violet these words that Gilbert told her at the end. But I don’t know man, only 14 episodes, it feels like it will need a second season

The part that got me most about the interactions between Violet and Hodgins was Hodgins’ almost manic insistence that she take a doll. There’s a desperation there, where maybe he sees her more as a path to his own redemption than an actual person.

期待を裏切らなかった！
面白そうなストーリーになりそうだね。
PVを1つ見た時は、彼女が何かのロボットかと思ったけど、そうじゃないって分かってさらに良くなった。
ヴァイオレットはもう既にかなりいい感じで、どう成長していくか見るのが楽しみだよ！
ギルバートが死んでるって教えておくべきだったと思うけど、彼女はもう知ってる気がする。
それと、これは私的にはバッチリ合ってるよ。
It didn’t disappoint and that feels great!!! Looks like it could be a very interesting story, having seen only one of the PVs i thought she was some kind of robot but not being one makes me like it more, Violet is already pretty great and i am looking forward to see how she develops! 正直言ってまあまあのスタートだったよね。
アニメーションは期待通りに良かったけど、今のところ感動はしてないな。
ドラマはまあまあだったけど、彼らのことをほとんど知らないから、そこまで心に響かなかったよ。
このエピソードは設定の紹介みたいなもんだから、話が面白くなる余地はまだまだたくさんあるさ。
That was an alright start tbh, animation looks as good as expected but I don’t feel impressed so far, the drama was fine but we barely know a thing about them so it didn’t really hit me, this was an introduction to the setting so there is still a lot of room for the story to get interesting anyways.

なんで番組にはいいフックが必要なの？
自分の中で最高の番組だと思ってるのは、警官たちが20分間街角で鑑識が来るのを待ってるシーンから始まるんだから（『ザ・ワイヤー』ね）。
このアニメにはまだまだ説明できる余地がいっぱいあるんだから、最初から大爆発や自動手記人形に関するあらゆる説明がなくても大丈夫だよ。
Why does a show need a good hook? The top show ever created in my mind started with a 20 minute scene of cops sitting on a street waiting for forensics to arrive (The Wire) There is so much more room for exposition in this show, it doesn’t have to start with a massive explosion and every possible explanation of the dolls.
